GoGIS is a device-local GIS app. We have no GoGIS cloud, no user accounts, no advertising, and no analytics SDKs. Your project (layers, forms, photos, and GPS points you collect) stays in the app’s private storage on your device unless you export it or start Field Sync with another device you choose.
If you use an online basemap or optional reference dataset, the app requests that data from the map or government provider. Those requests are not sent to a GoGIS server.
All geographic data you import, create, or collect in GoGIS is stored locally on your device in a private SQLite database within the app’s sandboxed storage. Photos, signatures, and drawings you attach to features are stored in the same project folder. This data is:
GoGIS requests access to your device’s GPS when you use location features (showing your position on the map or collecting GPS data points). You can deny or revoke location access in system Settings; import, viewing, and most editing still work.
GPS points you collect are stored only in your local project. They are not transmitted unless you export the project or use Field Sync.
On Android you may optionally pair an external GNSS receiver (for example a Bad Elf unit) over Bluetooth. Location from that receiver is used the same way as the phone GPS: on-device only.
GoGIS requests camera access only when you capture a photo, barcode, or similar attachment in a form. Images stay in the project on your device unless you export or Field Sync.
GoGIS may access the internet when you:
Those requests go to the provider you are using, not to GoGIS. They typically include the map area you are viewing and your device’s IP address, and they are subject to the provider’s privacy policy, including Apple and Mapbox. Imported projects and core field tools remain available offline. You can also download map tiles for offline use so later fieldwork does not need a network.
When you start Field Sync, GoGIS uses a direct nearby-device or local-network connection to exchange the project changes you approve. GoGIS does not route the Field Sync package through a GoGIS cloud server.
GoGIS does not include advertising or third-party analytics SDKs. Optional online maps and reference-data sources are provided by their respective map or government data services. GoGIS contacts those services only when you use the related feature.
GoGIS does not create accounts or collect personal information from anyone, including children. The app is intended for general audiences.
